Welcome to our theology and doctrine page. Within this category you will find a wide variety of resources that in some cases contradict each other in theological doctrine. There are many streams of Christian theology. Some of the more obvious examples would be High Calvinism, Arminianism, Wesleyan Arminianism, low or modified Calvinism (sometimes called neo-Calvinism), and even Wesleyan Calvinism. Most of today’s Calvinism is what could be called “Arminianized” Calvanism, which is evangelical, while High Calvinism is distinctly non-evangelical. As for the doctrinal stance of Christian Family Life Books, if we were forced to place ourselves under the banner of one of the above, we would have to say somewhere close to Wesleyan Arminian. However, there is an inherent danger is doing so. To take a stand on whether one is Calvanist, Arminian, or any other doctrinal banner, is to stand by a philosophy as our governing religious belief or foundation rather than on the Word of God. But as we see it, our theology must always be grounded in God’s Word. So in reality, our theological position is Biblicist. Many will no doubt disagree with me when I say that Calvin was not a Calvinist. There is much in the Westminster Confession of Faith that Calvin himself would take issue with. The same is true of Arminianism. Arminius was a Calvinist, and he would take issue with much of what we know as Arminianism today. The founding fathers of Protastantism were brilliant godly men who hammered out doctrine from the theological confusion of their day, and we are very grateful for these respected men. But the theologies that were developed by their followers began to take on a religious tone very early on, wherein they became systems of philosophy within their theological framework. The result is that today we have a confusing array of philosophical theologies that would make any new believer wither from the heat of the debates between their adherents. So Christian Family Life Books has elected to take a simple approach to the swirling accusations of heresy hurled to and fro from the high seats of academia. The resources within these pages are designed to stimulate the mind to reason and to serious study of the Sacred Scriptures as did the Bereans who “were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so” (Acts 17:11). Become a serious Bible scholar by understanding where you stand on all the high points of theology, not being swayed by the doctrines of one philosophy or another until you have thoroughly weighed every point against the solid study of God’s Word.
